TRADESCORE LABS · PRACTICAL FIRST STEPS
Computer or device not working? Start here
A calm first-check routine for everyday device problems, with routes to focused setup, browser, Bluetooth and hardware guides.
Start with one problem and one change at a time. You do not need to be an IT professional.
- Describe what you can see. Write down the exact error and what you were doing. For example: “The printer is switched on, but this laptop says offline.” Avoid sharing a screenshot containing passwords or private documents.
- Find the scope. Try another app or a second device you own. If only one app fails, start with that app. If every device loses internet, check the router or provider before resetting a laptop.
- Check the simple connections. Confirm power, the selected Wi-Fi network, the correct audio output and firmly seated cables. Check a physical mute switch or airplane mode.
- Save before restarting. Save documents and finish transfers. Restart the affected app first, then the device if needed. Do not interrupt an update or an active recovery operation.
- Repeat the original action. Use the same file or website. If it works, stop changing settings. If it fails, choose the matching guide below.
Two common examples
Bluetooth will not connect: check the accessory has power and is in pairing mode. On Windows 11, try the Bluetooth troubleshooter in Get Help. If other accessories connect, focus on the accessory; if none connect, follow the PC manufacturer’s guidance.
A browser download fails: read the exact error, check the connection and available storage, and retry a trusted download. A security block is a reason to check the file and source—not to switch off protection.
Know when to stop
A swollen battery, burning smell or liquid damage needs qualified help. Stop using the device and follow the manufacturer’s safety advice. For work or school devices, ask your organisation before making administrative changes.
