PRACTICAL IT SUPPORT · UPDATED 11 OCTOBER 2026
Validate IT inventory exports with TypeScript
Check real input data before trusting typed reports for support decisions.
Treat external JSON as unknown
TypeScript types disappear at runtime. Start with unknown input and check that it is an array of records with the required fields. Casting a JSON value to an interface does not make a malformed asset or ticket record valid.
Check dates and identifiers
Use explicit UTC timestamps where elapsed time matters and calendar dates where warranty periods are tracked by day. Reject malformed dates and duplicate identifiers. Check what an empty field means in the source system before interpreting it as missing ownership.
Understand the limits of a summary
An open-ticket age report measures elapsed hours, not an SLA that excludes weekends or pauses. Warranty reminders depend on the supplied export and cannot verify a vendor contract. Review flagged records in their source system before escalating or purchasing a renewal.
