Try a complete support workflow

A complete example: one Windows PC cannot get online

Windows 11; a connection you own or are authorised to support. Reviewed against Microsoft guidance on 14 October 2026. Interface labels can differ by build.

  1. Define the problem. Try two known websites. Compare another device on the same connection. Record whether one app, one PC or everyone is affected.
  2. Check connection state. Open Settings → Network & internet. Confirm Wi-Fi is on, airplane mode is off and the intended network is selected. Do not disclose the Wi-Fi password.
  3. Use the supported diagnostic. Open Get Help and use the Network and Internet troubleshooter. Read each proposed action before agreeing; managed devices may need your IT team.
  4. Verify. Retry the original task, not just a different website. If the PC connects but one app still fails, use that app’s support path. If all devices fail, check the service provider or network owner.

Expected result

You can separate a shared connection outage from one-device or one-application trouble. These checks do not prove a root cause.

Rollback and stop conditions

Restore any Wi-Fi or airplane-mode selection you changed if it makes things worse. Do not reset network adapters, uninstall drivers, disable a firewall or reboot shared equipment as a first step. Stop for suspected compromise, lost data or a business-critical outage.
